Cityscapes in Red Grooms Art

Art has the quality that allows it to transcend time. Marlborough Fine Art was founded in 1946 and serves as a portal that can take you through time. Ever since it opened its doors and took on a pivotal role in not just curating art but also in encouraging newer mediums and contemporary artists. Every decade that the gallery has seen is memorable and paints a chronological progression of how art developed right from the European masters of the 19th and 20th centuries to more exciting genre-redefining ways of contemporary digital medium artworks.

Keeping this tradition alive of showcasing interesting and thought-provoking art and encouraging active participation and debate has once again been fulfilled with the display and sale of the work of Red Grooms. Red Grooms is no stranger to stirring up a debate, his work as a multimedia artist is instantly recognizable and has been a catalyst in redefining the genre and giving everyone in the industry something new to talk about. Red Grooms art for sale at the Marlborough gallery reinforces their faith in art.

Many compare Red Grooms or see parallels between Grooms and Marcel Duchamp’s works. Grooms was born in Tennessee during the Great Depression and many a time provides a thought-provoking commentary on city life and what it takes to survive along with other portrayals juxtaposing the industrial and urban city with a more rural landscape. Many of Grooms’ work has been displayed in galleries across the world such as the Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Modern Art – New York, etc. The Marlborough Fine Art gallery has also had the privilege to display Grooms's work and invite and encourage conversations around his stunning aesthetic.

New York On My Mind

The urbane, the city, the erratic colours and the juxtaposition of serenity with the rush of the city are some of the common tropes he works with. Red Grooms New York on My Mind is a fascinating landscape of the continuous movement – both physical and psychological, a city like New York can elicit in its inhabitants.  Almost all of his works are filled with activity, a sense of movement and contemplation is what many of his subjects undergo. His colourful pop art style and the playful colours he uses to make his works simply ‘pop’

Many of his subjects particularly the ones in urban settings are characters caught up in the mundane and surrounded by others traversing a similar path. However, the form of these characters, the colour he chooses to use, their placement in the painting and the little hints of the magnitude of their contemplative expressions make these characters located in routine anything but mundane.

Red Grooms work simply cannot be overlooked for the wealth of its beauty, charisma and its simple ability to turn heads and initiate a discussion. This is also one of the reasons why Grooms artwork is for sale right now and the Marlborough Art Gallery is proud to work with and display a piece of art history.
